Annual Bar Bat Mitzvah Celebration
This is a semester-long program which begins with in-depth Jewish education and culminates in a full-day event bringing together Deaf young adults from across Israel to celebrate this important Jewish life milestone together with their peers, family members and school counselors. Participants come from every city across the country, including Eilat in the South to border communities in the North.
The program expands to include more students each year, with 2018 seeing 80 Deaf students participate in the program, receiving Torah and Jewish values education in each participant’s respective city in preparation for their upcoming Bar or Bat Mitzvah.
Celebrants and families then gather together for the crown jewel Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration, which includes a full ceremony, festive meal, and tour of the Old City of Jerusalem. The Bar/Bat Mitzvah event gathers nearly 200 guests in all, and grows each year!
In addition to the incredible Jewish experience this provides for the students and their families, it also allows them the opportunity to meet peers from all over the country, share their common experience, and create friendships that can last a lifetime.
