Get Shlichut faciliated by Dr Levmore

An unusual cry for help reached the director for the IYIM Project for the Prevention of Agunot and Get-Refusal. A man, residing in Israel, is a victim of get-refusal with his wife living in the US refusing to accept a get.  Due to Dr. Rachel Levmore’s experience of over two decades of cooperation with rabbis and Rabbinical Courts in the US, she condensed the complex story and was able to turn around what seemed to be a hopeless situation. Dr. Levmore’s counter-intuitive suggestion actually simplified the entire process in which the wife in the US was brought to be the active litigant and open a request for a “get shlichut” – get by proxy – in her local Rabbinical court. That American court, would in turn request of the Israeli Beit Din Rabbani to “summon” the husband to arrange a get in their Court – with which, obviously, he would be very happy to comply. By granting the wife control over the process, she would be willing to arrange the get.
