Hearing impaired elderly experience the shofar

On September 3rd and 4th  R’ Alex Yeres from the IYIM Jewish Heritage Program for the Deaf
and earing impaired visited the ACHA Elderly Deaf club Tel Aviv to conduct interactive workshops and speak about Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur to the members.

R’ Yeres spoke about the importance of giving charity and doing good deeds to others all year long and especially before the high holiday days. He explained that G-d is pleased that we help others and He in return helps us. He also spoke about the importance of prayer and stressed that G-d listens to all of our prayers, especially personal ones.

R’ Yeres then enabled those who were unable to hear the sounds of the shofar to feel its vibrations as he blew it so that they also could also “feel the High Holidays”.
The gathering ended with heartfelt wishes of a good and healthy year for all.
