Kallah teachers learn about Get Refusal

In response to a request of the Religious Council of Gush Etzion, a lengthy presentation was made, to the women being trained to serve as “Kallah teachers”, within its official certification course. This is an additional indication of inroads made into the “official” rabbinic establishment. The evening opened with an enormous impact as, Dr. Rachel Levmore, the director of the IYIM Agunah and Get-Refusal Prevention Project, asked each participant where she lived. Dr. Levmore then went on to tell the women that she personally knew at least one women who was a victim of get-refusal in each of their towns. The kallah-teachers-in- training- were shocked. They all paid rapt attention, asking incisive questions, as the prenuptial Agreement for Mutual Respect was presented and explained. Each woman left the evening with a realization of the heavy responsibility they carry to insure that each of the brides they teach will sign the agreement prior to the wedding, so that she will be protected
