Californian judges attend Dr. Levmore’s lecture
Home » IYIM GET REFUSAL PROGRAM - LECTURES AND WORKSHOPS » Californian judges attend Dr. Levmore’s lecture
September 5, 2017 11:42 am No Comments elisheva

An extremely high-level lecture was delivered by Dr. Rachel Levmore, director of the Agunah and Get-Refusal Prevention Project to a group of judges from the State of California, who came to study the legal system in Israel. Approximately forty honorable judges paid close attention to explanations of the development of Jewish law, its application today and the Israeli State Rabbinical Court system—all of the above affecting the agunah problem. The situation in the United States was clarified as well so that the judges should have full understanding should they meet up with a case of an agunah or get-refusal. In fact, one judge approached Dr. Levmore in the lively Q & A period and told that he had been faced with just such a situation on a divorce case and had ruled that the husband would be found in contempt of court if he did not deliver the get immediately—which the husband did! The judges were so engaged, feeling the need to continue the deep conversation that they fervently requested that she attend their farewell dinner!
